Passionate about making Whitefish Bay the best it can be. Experienced enough to do so.
I grew up in northcentral Wisconsin. Shortly after meeting the person I would eventually marry at a Brewers’ tailgate, I moved to Milwaukee to be closer to her and to finish my education. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and then attended Marquette University Law School where I received my Juris Doctorate. I currently practice as a civil legal aid attorney in the Milwaukee area.
As our family continued to grow, we looked at a lot of communities in southeastern Wisconsin with hopes of buying a house and putting down roots. Like a lot of families, my wife and I chose Whitefish Bay as the place to raise our two young boys. We chose the Bay because of the schools, the walkability, and the sense of community that it has. We have never regretted that decision. However, no place is perfect, and I felt that the village needed to be more proactive regarding Silver Spring, the parks, and other issues concerning everyday life for residents. So, in 2021, I put my hat in the ring and ran for a seat on the village board. I was elected and have worked hard with my colleagues on the board and villagers all over the Bay to better this community ever since.
WHY I AM RUNNING
Over the past three years I have proudly served as your representative on the Whitefish Bay Village Board of Trustees. During that time, I have worked hard to maintain the high standard of living we all enjoy while tackling issues that face our village. Some of the actions I have taken include:
Although a lot has been accomplished, a lot more needs to be done to ensure our village is the best it can be for everyone who lives here. That is why I am asking for your vote again on April 2nd, 2024.
When I ran for office in 2021, Silver Spring was plagued with empty store fronts and closing business. There are now just a handful of vacant spaces and the street feels alive again. Although I am excited to see the progress on Silver Spring, there is still work to be done. Not only is the Fox Bay Theater still vacant, but we recently lost Trouble and Sons, one of the few restaurants we had in Whitefish Bay. I am committed to working with all interested parties to help keep the momentum going in the right direction and to help Silver Spring live up to its full potential.
Whitefish Bay is a walkable community. It is part of the reason people move here. We are proud that our children walk and ride bikes to school, and we all enjoy strolls to Silver Spring. Sadly though, most of us have also witnessed reckless driving and pedestrian endangerment on our roads. In order to maintain the walkable village we all enjoy, we need to ensure that travel by foot, bike, or other non-motorized means is safe and accessible. Although a lot of work has gone into increasing awareness and studying the issue, the time is now for taking bolder action by prioritizing the safety of our children, families, and neighbors over reckless driving.
Whitefish Bay is a village that does a lot of things well. I am committed to maintaining the high level of services that we have all come to enjoy and depend on. The village of Whitefish Bay acts as an employer to the finest civil servants in the state and I will work hard to make sure we continue to hire and employ the best possible staff and deliver the highest quality service. All while being a responsible steward of your tax dollars and ensuring transparency in the process.
Whitefish Bay is fortunate enough to reside next to one of the largest bodies of freshwater on the planet. It is our responsibility to ensure that such an amazing resource is available for future generations. Simple actions like controlling runoff, reducing pesticide use, and a focus on planting native species in both municipal and private grounds, are small but impactful ways we can protect the place that provides the water we drink.
Whitefish Bay enjoys a wonderful park system that boasts both manmade and natural amenities. This upcoming year Klode Park will be getting a long overdue makeover. However, as I was working on the Klode project it became increasingly clear that many, if not all of our parks, need attention. I worked hard to help pass the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) that lays out a bold strategy for our park systems. With your help I am confident we can achieve the ambitious goals we have set and ensure our children and families have safe, accessible, and quality spaces to play, learn, and grow.
